Pastor Berndt has served as pastor in Bagley, MN, for five years and as teacher at Martin Luther High in Northrop, MN, for nine years. This is his seventh year at LHS.



Tom Bost

English, Honors English, Drama

Tom comes to Sacramento after spending time teaching theatre at Concordia, Irvine. He brings plenty of experience in both teaching and drama at LHS. Tom has taught in his hometown of Rockford, IL at the Lutheran high school for seven years. He has also done some extensive touring and performing in drama for many years. Tom looks forward to seeing the powerful ways that God works in the classroom at LHS.

Shannon Galloway

Science, Geometry, Religion

B.S. Concordia University, TX


Shannon was born in San Antonio, Texas. She also enjoys being the Student Council Supervisor. Shannon is a member of Peace Lutheran Church and plays piano in the Praise Band. This is Shannon’s eighth year teaching at LHS. She and her husband, Jason, reside in Del Paso Heights. She enjoys the outdoors, be it hiking, camping, or running - her favorite parks are Yosemite and Lassen.

James Maddock

Principal

Before accepting the role of Principal in 2007, James served Lutheran High School as teacher, Athletic Director, and coach. James graduated from Concordia University in 1997, with a BA in History/Political Science. James lives in Elk Grove with his wife, Kristi, who teaches 6th grade at Foulkes Ranch Elementary, his four year old daughter, Grace, and new addition to the family, Eleanor. James is currently working toward his Master’s degree. James is now entering his 10th year of teaching in Lutheran education.

David Harris

Campus Director

B.A., California State University, Chico


David grew up in Lodi, CA and after graduating from California State University, Chico moved to San Francisco and worked in a large e-commerce organization. Before accepting the role of Campus Director in 2008, he served Lutheran High School as an Office Manager, music teacher, and assistant baseball coach. David enjoys songwriting, photography, and Atlanta Braves baseball in his free time.

Irene Powers

School Secretary


Mrs. Irene Powers is a native Sacramento-an. She is a long-time educator in Lutheran schools, member of Trinity Lutheran Church with her husband, Doug, and the mother of three graduates of (Sacramento) Lutheran High School.

Clare Payne

College and Career Advisor

B.A., Oberlin,
M.A., University of North Carolina

Clare began her career as a public school teacher in New York City, North Carolina and California and then worked for seventeen years as founder and executive of the Learning Exchange, an award-winning adult education company. She is a Certified College Admissions Advisor (UC Berkeley, Extension) with a private practice in Sacramento, and is also a member of the National and Western Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC, WACAC) and High Education Consultants Association. She holds a M.A.T. degree in teaching English.

Dean Jones

Athletic Director

Head Boy’s Varsity Basketball Coach


Dean Jones is a graduate of Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks. Dean has been coaching basketball for 11 years. From 1997-2004, he coached both boys and girls in grades 4-8 at Town and Country Lutheran School in Sacramento. In the fall of 2004, Dean joined Lutheran High School as Head JV Boy’s Basketball Coach. In 2006, Dean became Lutheran High School’s Head Varsity Basketball Coach. In 2007, he became Lutheran High School’s Athletic Director.

Dennis Simmons

B.S. Mathematics, UC Davis


Dennis joined the LuHi team in 2007. He has experience teaching multiple levels of math at a variety of public schools. Dennis looks forward to launching a strong math program at Lutheran High School this year.

Sandra Elledge

B.A., Western Illinois University

Elementary and Secondary teaching credentials from CSU Sacramento


Sandra retired early after working 30 years for the State so she could teach. She worked as a substitute teacher for EGUSD for two years prior to coming to LuHI. She and her husband have been married for 32 years, and they have two children: Stuart and Erin. Sandra has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 33 years. Her first love is teaching and she is truly enjoying the students and classes she is teaching. She is looking forward to many happy years at Lutheran High School.
