A. Lee Battershell is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Acquisition Professional Program Manager, and a Certified Financial Management Comptroller. She is in private practice and serves as a panel member for the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel, as Treasurer for Faith Lutheran Church and School, and provides accounting assistance to District churches.
She served on the Board of the Church Extension Fund; as the Director, Policy, Oversight, and Systems, Air Force Audit Agency; as Associate Director, Department of State; as Program Manager, Department of Defense Inspector General; as Research Fellow Industrial College of the Armed Forces; and as research team member for the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Ms. Battershell managed two major development programs – the automated work papers and the automated management information system. She helped form the security oversight program for the Department of State in response to Admiral Bobby Inman’s finding of lax security at United States Embassies around the world. She co-authored the publications “Acquisition Alerts for Program Managers” and IIA Professional Practices Pamphlet 98-3, “Automating the Audit Workpaper Process,” authored the article “Technology Approach: DoD versus Boeing, a Comparative Study,” and authored a book, “The C-17 versus the 777.”
During her career, Ms. Battershell chaired several boards and committees including the Federal Audit Executives Council on Auditing in a Paperless Environment, the Communications Systems Requirements Board, the Information Processing Group, and the Workforce Diversity Committee. She served on the President’s Council for Integrity and Efficiency for Education, and served on a joint Air Force/Army board to improve technology use in the workplace. In addition to many performance awards, Ms. Battershell received the Federal Woman of the Year Award and the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award.
Ms. Battershell graduated with honors (cum laude) from California State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She has a Masters of National Resource Management from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and an MBA from Central Michigan University.
